Section reference
Every section in Curio — what it does, what it needs, and where its settings are.
Every section here can be added to any template unless the entry says otherwise. All of them have a Color scheme setting; only the interesting settings are listed below.
Signature sections#
The sections built specifically for selling one-of-one stock.
Register#
A full-width, shoppable ledger table of a collection: thumbnail, lot number, title, condition, price. On a phone it stacks into ruled rows rather than scrolling sideways.
This is the section that most distinguishes Curio from a grid theme. Shoppers who are scanning for a specific item read a table far faster than a grid, and dealers with deep stock in one category — records, watches, denim — get a page that looks like their stock book.
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Heading | “Register” |
| Collection | none — required |
| Rows to show | 12 (3–24) |
Grading system#
Your condition scale, published on a ruled A–D device. Each Grade block has a stamp and a plain-language definition.
Curio ships four blocks with the letters A to D and the definition “Describe what buyers can expect from this grade.” The theme will never write a grade definition for you — the words have to be yours, because they are a promise you are making. Up to 10 grades.
Whatever you write here should match the values you put in curio.condition_grade on products.
That consistency is the entire point.
Sold archive#
Sold lots as a designed, dated record with SOLD overstamps. Either a scrolling strip or a grid.
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Heading | “Deaccessioned” |
| Collection | none — required, a collection you curate of sold lots |
| Layout | Scrolling strip, or Grid |
| Products to show | 8 (2–16) |
Two things make this work:
- Keep sold products published. Do not delete or unpublish a sold one-of-one item.
- Turn on the archive in Theme settings → Sold lots, which is what makes a sold product page render as an archive entry rather than an out-of-stock dead end.
Then curate a collection of them — a manual collection, or an automated one on a tag you apply when something sells.
Single lot#
One product, given a full spotlight: provenance, measurements, condition, and the one-of-one state, in the middle of any page. Accepts app blocks and a custom Liquid block.
Use it for a headline piece — the thing you would put in the window.
Ledger index#
Your collections as ruled table rows with live product counts. A calmer, denser alternative to a grid of collection images, and the counts are real.
Manifest#
Numbered steps with stamped markers — sell to us, how we grade, our guarantee. Each Step block has a title, text, and an optional link. Up to 12.
For consignment and trade-in stores this doubles as the intake pitch, and it is the section most likely to earn you stock.
Provenance story#
An editorial split — image on one side, text and a chain-of-custody timeline on the other. Each Chain entry block is a date and a line of text. Up to 12 entries, and the layout can flip.
Stock hero#
The split hero: a headline over double rules, monospace fact rows, and a plate image. Fact row blocks are a label and a value, which is where the specifics go — Est. 2014, Osaka + online, All lots graded. Up to 12 blocks, mixing fact rows and buttons.
Limited to one per page, and the only section with a height setting (adapt, standard, tall).
Journal#
Blog excerpts as dated ledger notes. Pick a blog, show 2–4 articles.
Margin note#
A single annotated aside — a line of text with an optional attribution, tilted like a note in a margin. Deliberately small. Use it once on a page, at most.
Merchandising and marketing#
Featured collection#
Products as a dense contact sheet of numbered lots. 2–16 products, 2–4 columns.
Show received dates adds the date each product was published to the store, which for a resale store honestly reads as when we got it. It is off by default because it is only true if you publish things when they arrive.
Slideshow#
A scroll-snap filmstrip of plate images with an anchor pager. Up to 8 Slide blocks, each with an image, eyebrow, heading, text, link, and text position.
There is no autoplay, and there will not be. Slides move when the shopper moves them. Autoplaying carousels measurably lose sales and lock out anyone who reads slowly.
Image plate#
One banner image on a mat, with a monospace Fig. caption, optional overlay heading, text, and
button. Four aspect ratios — the image’s own, 3:1, 2:1, or 16:9 — cover or contain, optional full
width, and five overlay positions.
Promo tiles#
A contact sheet whose cells are your own promos — image, eyebrow, heading, text, link. Up to 12 tiles, 2–4 columns. The workhorse for “shop by category” rows.
Lookbook#
An editorial image with numbered hotspot markers that open a panel with the product or a custom link. Up to 10 Hotspot blocks, each positioned with horizontal and vertical sliders.
Leave a hotspot’s heading empty and it uses the product title.
Before and after#
A restoration record: as-found against as-sold, with a slider divider. Set both images, label them, and choose where the divider starts.
For refurbishers this is the most persuasive section in the theme, because it is evidence rather than a claim.
Press coverage#
Pull quotes filed as ledger entries, each with an optional logo, source, and date. Up to 12 clippings, 1–4 columns.
Questions#
Ruled question rows that open and close natively, so they work with JavaScript disabled and are readable by search engines. Up to 24 Question blocks, each of which can start open.
Trust badges#
Stamped assurances — up to 8 blocks with an icon, heading, and text, in 2–4 columns.
Every word is yours. Curio ships no pre-filled claims, because a theme that pre-fills “100% authentic” is inviting you to publish a promise you have not checked.
Countdown#
Counts down to one real moment you set, then shows your expired message and stops. There is no repeat mode, no rolling timer, and no way to make it restart per visitor.
| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Ends at | Required. Format: 2026-12-31 18:00 |
| Expired text | Shown once the moment passes |
| Link, Link label | Optional call to action |
Recently viewed#
The last few products a visitor looked at, remembered in their own browser and fetched on demand. 2–12 products, 2–5 columns. Empty for a first-time visitor, which is correct.
Age verifier#
A blocking gate over the whole storefront. Lives in the Footer group and ships off.
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Enabled | off |
| Remember for | 30 days (1–90) |
| Reset version | 1 — raise it to ask everyone again after you change the question |
Set the confirm and decline wording, and what the decline screen says. Only turn this on if you are legally required to; it costs you visitors who bounce rather than click.
Promo popup#
A delayed, dismissible offer that is remembered. Also in the Footer group, also off by default.
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Enabled | off |
| Delay | 8 seconds (0–30) |
| Don’t ask again for | 14 days (1–90) |
| Show newsletter form | on |
| Reset version | 1 — raise it to show a changed popup again |
Contact form#
A contact form styled as an official intake card, with an optional subject field. Curio’s
page.contact template uses it; you can also drop it on any page — under the manifest section,
for instance, so a consignment pitch ends in a form.
Rich text#
Heading, text, and button blocks in a measured column. Three widths, two alignments, up to 16 blocks. The section to reach for when you just need to say something.
Custom Liquid#
Any Liquid, HTML, or Javascript you paste in. The escape hatch for an app snippet or a tracking tag that has to sit in the page body.
Apps#
An empty section that exists for app blocks to be placed in. Add it where you want an app’s content to appear, then add the app’s block inside it.
Product page sections#
These three only appear on the product template.
Related products#
Shopify’s own recommendations for the current product, as a contact sheet. The list comes from Shopify’s recommendation engine, which needs some order history before it is any good — on a new store it falls back to products from the same collection.
Complementary products#
Products you have explicitly paired with this one. This needs Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app: install it, open Product recommendations, and pick complements per product. Until you do, the section renders nothing.
For resale, the useful pairings are the accessory to the jacket, the lens to the body, the sleeve to the record.
Pickup availability#
Whether the item can be collected, and from where. Reads your locations from Settings → Locations and needs local pickup enabled on at least one of them.
The header, footer, and announcement bar#
Header#
| Setting | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sticky header | on | The masthead follows the scroll |
| Menu | Main menu | From Content → Menus |
| Enable mega menu | on | A menu item with a third level, or with an in-menu promo, opens full-width |
| Customer account menu | Customer account main menu | Shown to signed-in customers |
| Show Sign in with Shop | on |
Up to 12 In-menu promo blocks. Each names the top-level menu item it belongs under — the text has to match the menu item — and adds an image, heading, text, and link inside that menu.
Footer#
Up to 12 blocks:
- Menu — a heading and one of your Shopify menus.
- Text — a heading and rich text. Where the colophon paragraph goes.
- Newsletter — a heading, text, and the signup form, styled as a perforated receipt.
Plus switches for social icons, payment icons, the country selector, and the language selector.
Announcement bar#
Up to 8 Announcement blocks, each with text and an optional link, plus the archive ticker described in building your home page.
